AGWENG, LIRA DISTRICT – Agweng Parents Nursery and Primary School was a scene of joy, pride, and significant announcements yesterday as 55 nursery pupils donned graduation caps and gowns for their end-of-year ceremony.

The event, which drew parents, teachers, and local officials, was graced by the Lira District Inspector of Schools, Mr. Tonny Acwera, as the chief guest. In his address, Mr. Acwera delivered a major policy directive that will reshape early childhood education in the district.
"Starting next year, we will not allow nursery schools to operate within the same premises as primary schools. This is a policy we are implementing for the better management and focused development of our learners," Acwera stated. He urged school proprietors to begin preparing for the transition.
The Inspector also called upon parents to prioritize the education of their children. "I ask all parents to pay fees for their children diligently. Education is the only key to a brighter future. Investing in it is non-negotiable," he emphasized.

Presiding over the graduation was the school's director, Major Retired Emmy Johnson Opio. He shared his founding vision, stating, "I started this school with a mission to improve the standard of education in Lira District." His commitment was further demonstrated with a personal pledge to cover the school fees for two orphans whose fathers tragically died in an accident, drawing applause from the gathering.
Agweng Parents Nursery and Primary School, celebrated as one of the leading institutions in the district, provided a fitting backdrop for the milestone event.
The graduation also touched on the political climate, as Major Opio, who is contesting for the Erute North MP seat, took a moment to issue a stern warning. He revealed that some of his campaign agents in Aromi have faced intimidation and threats.
"I want to warn politicians to stop threatening my agents. If anyone wants to target me, they should come to me directly. God is protecting me," Opio declared, highlighting the tensions ahead of the election period.
The ceremony concluded with the young graduates receiving their certificates, symbolizing their readiness to embark on the next chapter of their academic journey in Primary One, amid promises of policy change and community support.
