Lira City, Uganda – July 29, 2026 – The Government Chief Whip, Hon. Dr. Jane Ruth Aceng Ocero, has pledged to leverage her influential position to secure additional development for Lira Regional Referral Hospital (LRRH), following an inspection of newly completed infrastructure projects at the facility today.
Dr. Aceng, who also serves as the Lira City Woman Member of Parliament, toured the hospital ahead of tomorrow's official commissioning, expressing profound satisfaction with the progress made under the current administration.
The Government Chief Whip received a warm reception from the hospital staff, led by Acting Principal Hospital Administrator Ms. Monica Akello Oyet and Senior Consultant Paediatrician Dr. William Oyam. The entourage included a host of hospital staff and caregivers who turned out to welcome their former leader.
For Dr. Aceng, the visit carried special significance—she previously served as Medical Superintendent at LRRH before ascending to the position of Director General of Health Services, a trajectory that has now placed her at the helm of government legislative business as Chief Whip.
During a guided tour, Dr. Aceng inspected several newly completed projects that represent significant upgrades to the regional referral facility:The 220-metre Hospital Lane (formerly Police Road), providing improved access to the facility,The Infectious Isolation Unit, enhancing the hospital's capacity to manage contagious diseases,The covered canopy, offering shelter and improved patient experience,The Eye Unit, expanding specialized ophthalmic services and The expanded Outpatient Department (OPD) of the private wing
"Going forward, the vision is to transform LRRH into a specialised referral facility," Dr. Aceng stated, reflecting on the hospital's potential to serve as a regional healthcare hub.
Speaking after the inspection, the Government Chief Whip commended the hospital leadership for their dedication to service delivery.
"I want to congratulate the Hospital Director together with the entire hospital staff for this good work that has been done. It has also given visibility to the infrastructure along the former Police Road and strengthened the outlook of the Regional Referral Hospital," said Dr. Aceng.
She specifically noted the hospital's remarkable cleanliness—a standard she personally championed during her tenure at the facility before her appointment as Director General of Health Services.
"These improvements did not happen overnight. It demonstrates the commitment of the team and their commitment to serving the people of Lira and the wider region," she added.
Ms. Monica Akello Oyet, the Acting Principal Hospital Administrator, expressed gratitude for the Government Chief Whip's visit and positive remarks.
"The hospital staff are delighted to receive the Government Chief Whip and are humbled by her positive remarks about the cleanliness of the hospital—an initiative Dr. Aceng introduced while serving at LRRH before her appointment as Director General of Health Services," said Akello Oyet.

The projects are set to be officially commissioned tomorrow, Thursday, 30th July 2026, marking a significant milestone in the hospital's ongoing transformation.
