Victoria School of Nursing & Midwifery in Lira City Sets Gold Standard, Producing "Five-Star" Graduates with No Retakes on Record

Lira City, Uganda – Victoria School of Nursing and Midwifery, located in Lira City, has emerged as the leading institution for nursing and midwifery training in the Lango sub-region, earning a reputation for producing highly competent, "five-star" health professionals.

According to the school's Director, Dr. Isaac Orec, the institution's success lies in its emphasis on deep understanding of core principles rather than rote learning. This approach, he says, ensures that graduates are not only exam-ready but also fully prepared to serve communities in some of Uganda's most understaffed and challenging healthcare environments.

"We make our students understand the principles well so that when they go out, they can truly help the community," Dr. Orec said.

Victoria School of Nursing and Midwifery offers Certificate and Diploma Extension programs in both Nursing and Midwifery. The school has set remarkable records in Lango, with the majority of its students scoring distinctions in practical examinations. In an extraordinary feat, the institution proudly states that none of its students have ever been required to retake an exam.

According to the school, Victoria graduates are trained to excel in five critical roles that make them invaluable to any health facility:

1. Care Provider – Delivering comprehensive, evidence-based care ranging from treating disease and maternal care to immunizations, all with compassion, even in understaffed settings.

2. Decision Maker – Skilled in assessing, diagnosing, and treating patients, particularly when working independently in rural health centers with minimal supervision.

3. Communicator – Demonstrating excellent interpersonal skills to act as a bridge between the local community and the formal health system, while advocating for patient needs.

4. Community Leader & Health Educator – Empowering communities through awareness sessions, hygiene education, and disease prevention, thereby reducing the overall disease burden.

5. Manager & Leader – Exhibiting professionalism, ethical standards, and leadership in hospital settings, often mentoring junior colleagues or managing busy units despite heavy workloads.

Dr. Orec noted that the school's track record speaks for itself. "Our students leave here as complete professionals. They don't just pass exams—they save lives, lead teams, and educate entire communities. That is what a five-star nurse or midwife looks like."

With its unmatched academic record and a curriculum built on real-world impact, Victoria School of Nursing and Midwifery is rapidly becoming the benchmark for healthcare training in northern Uganda.
