Man of His Word: Hon. Denis Alyela Omodi Fulfills Campaign Promise to St. Phillips Erute Catholic Church with Family Support

Lira City, Uganda – Sunday, June 21, 2026

It was a moment of joy, faith, and fulfillment at St. Phillips Erute Catholic Church in Lira City East Division as Hon. Denis Alyela Omodi, the area Member of Parliament, made good on a promise that had lingered since his campaign trail.

During his campaign for the parliamentary seat, Hon. Alyela had pledged to purchase a main door for the church and four windows—a commitment he could not fulfill at the time due to electoral laws restricting campaign-related expenditures. But true to his word, the MP returned on Sunday to deliver—and he did so in grand style, involving his entire family in the act of giving.

Hon. Alyela, together with his wife Sarah Denis Alyela Omodi, contributed UGX 2 million toward the church project. Their four children also stepped up, each donating UGX 1.5 million, bringing the family's total contribution to UGX 8 million.

The MP revealed that his children insisted on being part of the gesture, seeing it as their own contribution to the house of God and a lesson in giving back to the community.

"This is not just my promise—it is a family promise. My wife and children believe in serving God and serving the people. Today, we are honored to complete what we started," said Hon. Alyela.

"Invite Me for Fundraisers, Not Weddings" before buying a cow at 1.5million shillings and 7 goats at 900,000 shillings and a cock at 100,000 shillings

In a lighthearted but heartfelt remark, the MP appealed to church leaders and the community to change how they engage with him.

"Instead of inviting me to weddings, invite me to fundraising events for your churches. I am committed to supporting God's work, and I want to be present where my contribution can make a lasting difference."

He assured congregants that his support would not stop at St. Phillips ERUTE, revealing that he is already consulting on how to support St. Mark Church of Uganda, Adekokwok—a project that the Hon. Sam Engola started

"Hon. Sam Engola started that work, and I will ensure it continues and we finish the construction’”,Alyela emphasized.

In a powerful message to his constituents, Hon. Alyela reaffirmed his commitment to inclusive leadership, vowing to work for every resident of Lira City East Division regardless of political affiliation or religious background.

"I am not here for one party or one denomination. I am here for all of you. Development does not discriminate, and neither will I."

He promised to push for more development projects in the division, including infrastructure, education, and youth empowerment initiatives, urging the community to remain united and supportive of his vision.

The congregation at St. Phillips Erute Catholic Church received the donation with gratitude, praising the MP for keeping his word and for involving his family in such a meaningful act.

"We are very happy today. Many politicians make promises and forget, but Hon. Alyela has shown us that he is different. May God bless him and his family," said one church elder.

As Lira City East Division continues to grow, Hon. Denis Alyela Omodi is steadily building a reputation as a leader who listens, delivers, and unites. With his doors—both literal and figurative—open to all, residents are hopeful that his tenure will bring the transformation they have long desired.
