APAC, UGANDA – There was a rare atmosphere of dignified transition at Maruzi Seed Secondary School on June 2, 2026, as Mr. Donald Oyera Aquila officially handed over office to Mr. Godfrey Ogwang as the new Headteacher.

The handover followed Oyera’s mandatory retirement after clocking 60 years on May 31, 2026, in line with Ugandan public service laws.

Oyera, who has led Maruzi Seed for the last five years, used the occasion to bid an emotional but professional farewell to staff, students, and the school community.
In his handover speech, Oyera promised to remain available for consultation if called upon—but made one thing absolutely clear:
“I will never interfere with the leadership and management of Ogwang. This is his time. I am retiring with peace, and I wish him nothing but success.”
His commitment to a clean break drew applause from colleagues, who described him as a leader who understands both the law and the value of institutional continuity.
The incoming headteacher, Mr. Godfrey Ogwang, joins Maruzi Seed from Omot Seed Secondary School, where he previously served as Headteacher.
Speaking shortly after receiving the instruments of power, Ogwang said he was deeply moved by the warm reception.
“I am overwhelmed by the high level of support shown to me. The name of Maruzi Seed is already good outside there—because of the great team and the work they have done. I promise to continue making Maruzi Seed shine from where my brother Oyera left.”
Ogwang specifically thanked the outgoing headteacher, describing him as “a very good person who is retiring with dignity.”
James Robert Ajal, Chairperson of the Board of Governors (BOG) at Maruzi Seed, confirmed that the appointment followed proper government procedures.
According to Ajal, after receiving a transfer letter from the Ministry of Public Service reassigning Ogwang to Maruzi Seed, he conducted his own due diligence.
“I did my investigation and found out that he is a good person with experience. I am confident in him,” Ajal told the gathering.
The BOG Chairman then gave Ogwang a clear charge: “Maintain unity amongst the staff, management, and students—and produce good results.”
The transition at Maruzi Seed Secondary School has been hailed by education stakeholders in Apac district as a model of professional handover. While Oyera exits to enjoy his retirement, Ogweng steps in with a promise to build on a solid foundation—without breaking the stride.
For the students and staff of Maruzi Seed, the message from both leaders was unanimous: the school’s best days are still ahead.
