Maruzi North MP Bernard Otim Odoch Donates UGX 7M, Mobilizes Parents for Ongica Primary Renovation

In a spirited display of community-driven development, parents and local leaders of Ongica Primary School in Maruzi North, Apac District, gathered today for a crucial meeting to finalize the ongoing renovation of the school’s classroom block. The session, which brought together stakeholders, educators, and residents, underscored a shared resolve to transform the learning environment for hundreds of pupils.

The meeting, held at the school grounds, was led by Hon. Bernard Otim Odoch, who took the lead in rallying collective action for the project. The discussions centered on completion timelines, resource mobilization, and the vital role of community participation in sustaining educational infrastructure.

In a significant show of personal commitment, Hon. Otim Odoch contributed UGX 7,000,000 (Seven Million Shillings) towards the renovation works. His donation, he explained, is aimed at fast-tracking the final stages of construction so that learners can soon access safe, dignified, and conducive classrooms.

"Education is the foundation of our future, and no child should learn under unsafe or dilapidated conditions," Hon. Otim Odoch told the gathering. "I call upon all of us—parents, leaders, and well-wishers—to put our hands together and finish this project. This contribution is not just money; it is an investment in our children's tomorrow."

Parents and community members warmly received the lawmaker's gesture, praising his responsiveness to the school's needs. Many reaffirmed their commitment to contributing labour and local materials to ensure the project is completed without further delay.

One parent, who spoke on behalf of the gathering, said:

"We are grateful to Hon. Odoch for listening to us. His support has given us new energy. We promise to stand with him and see this work through to the end."

The renovation of Ongica Primary School's classroom block has been a priority for the community, with the new facility expected to accommodate more pupils and improve the overall quality of learning. Stakeholders at the meeting noted that the project, once completed, will reduce overcrowding and provide a safer environment, particularly for younger learners.

Hon. Otim Odoch further urged the community to take ownership of the project, emphasizing that government and leadership support must be complemented by grassroots effort for sustainable development.

"We have the power to change our own communities," he added. "Let this school be a testament to what we can achieve when we work together."

The meeting ended with a renewed sense of purpose, as parents and leaders laid out a clear roadmap for the remaining works. The new classroom block is expected to be ready for use before the next school term.
