KWANIA DISTRICT, Uganda – Police in Kwania District have arrested sixteen suspected criminals and recovered a cache of illicit substances and tools used in housebreaking following a targeted intelligence-led operation in Aduku Town Council.
The operation, which was conducted on the evening of August 26, 2026, between 7:00 PM and 10:00 PM, targeted suspected hideouts in Central, Adyeda, and Aduku SS Cells. According to authorities, the raid was a direct response to a spike in complaints from residents regarding burglary, theft of cattle, and other related offenses in the area.
The District Police Commander led the operation, which resulted in the arrest of sixteen individuals, including both male and female suspects. Among those apprehended are Ogwal Raphael, Amuge Doreen, Alum Rebecca, and Omondi Elly, alongside several others currently being held for processing.
During the search, police officers recovered suspected opium and several implements believed to be used for breaking into homes and businesses. The items have since been exhibited and secured as evidence to support the pending legal proceedings.
Authorities confirmed that the suspects are currently being processed, and case files will be compiled and submitted to the Resident State Attorney (RSA) for perusal and legal guidance. Charges are expected to include possession and smoking of opium, subject to the final outcome of the investigations.
"We are appealing to members of the public to continue providing timely and credible information regarding suspected criminals and their hideouts," said SP Patrick Jimmy Okema, Police Spokesperson for the North Kyoga Region. "This enables law enforcement agencies to apprehend offenders and bring them to justice."
The Uganda Police Force reassured the public that such operations are part of a sustained effort to prevent and combat crime through intelligence-led policing and community engagement.
"We reassure the public that operations of this nature will continue in accordance with the law to ensure the safety and security of all residents," SP Okema added.
The Police encourage residents in Kwania and the surrounding areas to remain vigilant and report any suspicious activity to the nearest police station.
