KOLE DISTRICT, Uganda – Dickson Ogwang Okul, on behalf of Pala Ocol – Lango Chiefdom and in his personal capacity, has extended profound condolences to the Royal Family, the Babiito clan, the Kingdom of Tooro, and the entire nation following the passing of His Royal Majesty King Oyo Nyimba Kabamba Iguru Rukidi IV, who died on the night of 27th August 2026.
In a heartfelt statement, Ogwang Okul described the King's death as "the setting of a great light" and the departure of an "illustrious cultural leader" whose reign was defined by unwavering dedication to the socio-economic transformation of communities across Uganda.
"We stand in solemn solidarity with the Royal Family, the Babiito clan, the Kingdom of Tooro, and the entire nation of Uganda as we mourn this monumental loss," Ogwang Okul said.
The Lango cultural leader particularly cherished the enduring friendship and fraternal cooperation shared with His Majesty, recalling with fondness the King's historic visit to their community in Ayer, Kole District. During that visit, King Oyo engaged warmly with local residents, exchanging insights on modern fish farming, commercial agriculture, and youth empowerment—issues that reflected his rare blend of wisdom, humility, and modern vision.
"His Majesty's rare blend of wisdom, humility, modern vision, and deep reverence for cultural heritage left an indelible mark on all who had the privilege of working with him," Ogwang Okul stated.
The statement extended heartfelt sympathies to:
· Her Royal Highness Queen Mother Best Kemigisa, praying for divine solace, courage, and fortitude.
· The Royal Family (Ababiito and Ababitokati), the Regents, and the Kingdom Cabinet.
· The People of Tooro Kingdom (Abatooro), whose champion and guardian has transitioned to the realm of the ancestors.
· All Traditional and Cultural Institutions in Uganda, the Government of Uganda, and all citizens mourning this loss.
Ogwang Okul concluded by praying for strength, unity, and peace for the Kingdom of Tooro as they observe sacred traditional and state rites of passage.
"May His Royal Majesty King Oyo Nyimba Kabamba Iguru Rukidi IV rest in eternal, glorious peace," he said.
The passing of King Oyo, one of Uganda's youngest and most beloved cultural leaders, has drawn an outpouring of grief from across the nation, with cultural institutions and government officials joining in mourning a monarch widely respected for his progressive leadership and commitment to national unity.
