APAC, UGANDA – The Lango Province football team has officially commenced intensive training ahead of their highly anticipated FUFA Drum tournament opener against arch-rivals Buganda Province.
The training sessions began on Monday at the Lango College Play Ground with a squad of fifteen determined players. The team is preparing for the clash scheduled for Saturday, September 06, 2025, at the Apac Boma Ground.
Despite the absence of several star players, team officials are brimming with confidence. Belmos Gom, the Public Relations Officer (PRO) for Lango Province, confirmed that the initial training session was a success.
"The training started very well, and the spirit within the camp is high," Gom stated. "We will train here at Lango College for two days before moving our sessions to the match venue, the Apac Boma Ground, on Wednesday and Thursday to acclimatize."
Gom boldly declared Lango's intention to retain the trophy they famously won in the last edition of the competition. "Lango Province is ready to defend and retain the trophy. We are the reigning champions, and we have every intention of keeping it that way," he asserted. He added that the province boasts some of the best talents in the tournament and expressed his certainty that the team would reach the final.
Echoing the PRO's sentiments, Team Manager Ivan Opeto praised the commitment and readiness of the available players. He confirmed that the squad is fully focused on the task ahead and is prepared to secure a big win for the province.
The team's confidence remains unshaken even with the notable absence of key players like Allan Okello, Denis Omedi, Rogers Mato, and Joel Serunjogi, who are away on national duty with the Uganda Cranes for FIFA World Cup qualifiers.
In their place, the team is placing its faith in a new generation of talent. Officials believe these young players are eager to prove themselves and will step up to ensure Lango Province starts their campaign with a victory.
All eyes will now be on the Apac Boma Ground this Saturday as the champions begin their title defense in what promises to be a thrilling encounter against Buganda Province.
