Lira, Uganda – It was celebration galore in Lira City over the weekend as members of TECEL Group, a collective of businessmen operating opposite Lira Town College playground, joined Arsenal fans worldwide to mark the club’s Premier League title victory – ending a 22-year wait.
The Gunners’ triumph, secured after more than two decades of league disappointment, sent shockwaves of joy across the globe, and the TECEL Group ensured the moment was not lost in their community. On Saturday, the businessmen organized a vibrant celebration at their base, attracting fellow fans and well-wishers.
Hassan Obong, Chairperson of TECEL Group, led the festivities and explained why the occasion demanded such recognition.
“We deserve to celebrate good football played by Arsenal,” Obong said. “This title has been a long time coming. The team showed character, consistency, and beautiful football throughout the season.”
Obong, speaking amidst cheers from fellow Arsenal-loving traders, also looked ahead with optimism. He expressed confidence that the club’s resurgence is not a one-off.
“I have hope that Arsenal will excel well next season,” Obong added. “The foundation is strong, and with a few additions, they can compete for more trophies.”
The celebration featured music, refreshments, and passionate renditions of classic Arsenal chants, transforming the area opposite Lira Town College playground into a temporary north London enclave. For many TECEL members who had endured over two decades without a league crown, Saturday was both a release of frustration and a renewal of hope.
As the Premier League season concludes, Arsenal fans in Lira – led by the TECEL Group – have already set their sights on more glory, believing that the wait for the next title will be much shorter.
