Kole, Uganda — Hon. Sam Engola, the newly appointed Minister for Relief, Disaster Preparedness and Refugees, has received a resounding vote of confidence from the Lango Sub-region, with key leaders rallying behind him during a celebratory thanksgiving ceremony held yesterday, July 18, 2026.
The event, which took place at Olilo Primary School in Itek Sub County, was a major political and spiritual celebration attended by high-ranking government officials, including Prime Minister Robinah Nabbanja. The thanksgiving was organized by Minister Engola to express gratitude to the voters of Erute South and President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni for his reappointment to the critical docket.
"We love you, and anything to you is to us. We stand with you fully," declared Akech Loy Dorothy, Former District Woman MP Aspirant for Kole District (2026-2031), speaking on behalf of the "Stock Mpya from Lango Sub-region." She extended profound gratitude to His Excellency the President for trusting Hon. Engola with a key role in the Office of the Prime Minister, emphasizing that the entire region views his success as their own.
Engola, a key figure in the new 2026-2031 cabinet, was sworn in earlier this month alongside other ministers. He has hit the ground running, recently reaffirming Uganda's commitment to strengthening partnerships with regional bodies like IGAD to enhance disaster preparedness and climate resilience. During a meeting with the IGAD Head of Mission, the Minister noted the importance of frameworks like the Multi-Hazard Integrated Early Warning System. He has also pledged to engage the Eritrean government to address the growing influx of refugees, emphasizing Uganda's commitment to its refugee protection policies despite a staggering funding gap of USD 608.5 million.
"Mzee Juu. NRM Juu," the supporters chanted, pledging unwavering solidarity with the Minister. The thanksgiving ceremony served not only as a celebration but also as a crucial platform for regional development lobbying, with leaders calling for budgetary allocation for the creation of Erute District.
With the full backing of Akech Dorothy and the Lango Sub-region, Hon. Engola is poised to tackle the complex challenges of disaster management and refugee welfare in Uganda.
