Stella Anyango Declares Bid for Oyam Woman MP Seat, Pledges Integrity-Driven Leadership

Oyam District, Uganda – In a bold declaration ahead of the 2026 general elections, Stella Anyangohas officially announced her intention to contest for the position of Woman Member of Parliament for Oyam District (2026–2031), promising a leadership built on integrity, accountability, and community-centered development.

Unveiling her manifesto, Anyango rooted her campaign in core values such as Integrity and Accountability, Equity and Justice, Service Before Self, Transparency and Participation, and the Civilian Oversight of Security.

“My vision is a transformed Oyam where leadership listens, acts, and delivers. I am not here to make empty promises. I stand for values and service,” she told a cheering crowd during a grassroots meeting.

Strategic Pillars for a Stronger Oyam

Anyango’s approach to leadership is anchored in four strategic pillars:

Good Governance and Rule of Law

Transparent, Corruption-Free District Leadership

Strengthening Local Councils and Community Participation

Promoting Peace and Reconciliation through Inclusive Dialogue

She pledged to work closely with elders, youth groups, and religious leaders to build a more united and resilient Oyam.

Agriculture, Youth, and Social Welfare at the Forefront

Agriculture and Livelihoods

Stella Anyango placed heavy emphasis on revamping agriculture, vowing to:

Support farmers with quality seeds, skills training, and access to markets

Revive cooperative societies and SACCOs

Introduce irrigation schemes and value addition programs at the district level

Education and Youth Empowerment

Rehabilitate dilapidated schools and advocate for improved teacher welfare

Launch vocational training programs targeting youth across sub-counties

Provide bursaries to talented but underprivileged students

Healthcare and Social Welfare

Improve health service delivery and ensure availability of essential drugs

Lobby the Ministry of Health to equip and staff rural health centers

Roll out support programs for the elderly and persons with disabilities

Infrastructure and Environment

Champion better roads, bridges, and rural electrification

Protect wetlands, forests, and water bodies from illegal exploitation

Initiate school- and community-based tree-planting campaigns and environmental education

A Message to Voters: “Do Not Elect Leaders Based on Money”

Anyango issued a heartfelt appeal to the people of Oyam, urging them to reject vote-buying and corruption.

“Let us not sell our future for short-term gain. Elect leaders who have the heart to serve, not the wallet to buy loyalty,” she warned.

NRM Backing and Political Showdown

Stella Anyango has received endorsement from NRM leaders in Oyam District, setting the stage for a high-profile political contest with Hon. Santa Alum Ogwang of the UPC party, the current Woman MP.

With a clear message, a values-based agenda, and backing from influential voices in the ruling party, Anyango enters the race as a formidable contender.

The time for meaningful change is now. Let Oyam rise again—together,” she concluded.
