Kwania, Uganda – October 3, 2025
President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni has called on the people of Kwania and the wider Lango sub-region to rally behind the National Resistance Movement (NRM), its flag bearers, and “the old man with the hat” in the upcoming 2026 elections to sustain Uganda’s socio-economic transformation.
Speaking at a highly attended rally at Kwania Boma Grounds yesterday, President Museveni emphasized the NRM’s long-standing commitment to lifting Ugandans out of poverty — a vision that dates back to the 1960s.
“The message of the NRM is not to use the people for politics but to show them how to transform their lives, so that you move away from poverty,” the President stated.
He called for active participation in wealth creation, likening it to a sport where no one should remain a spectator.
“With football or athletics, you have sports people and spectators, but with wealth creation, everyone must be a player,” Museveni said. “I therefore appeal to those still outside the money economy to join; chase poverty from your homes and do it by bringing something that will put food on your table and money in your pocket.”
The President’s message resonated with many, including a surprising declaration of support from Kwania District LC5 Chairperson Geoffrey Alex Ogwal Adyebo, a prominent figure from the Uganda People’s Congress (UPC).
Adyebo publicly announced his intention to support President Museveni in 2026, adding that discussions are underway between him and NRM Secretary General Richard Todwong about formally joining the ruling party.
“Talks are going on between me and the NRM Secretary General Richard Todwong,” Adyebo confirmed at the rally. “I believe in President Museveni’s vision and leadership.”
The rally marks a significant political shift in the Lango sub-region, where opposition voices have traditionally held sway. Adyebo’s endorsement is seen as a major boost for the NRM ahead of the 2026 elections.
As the campaign period nears, President Museveni’s message remains clear: Ugandans must not only support the NRM politically but also take personal responsibility in driving the nation’s development by becoming active participants in wealth creation.
