The Deputy Chairperson of the African Union Commission, H.E. Ambassador Selma Malika Haddadi, held high-level consultations with H.E. Ambassador Rebecca Amuge Otengo, Uganda’s Permanent Representative to the African Union and the United Nations Economic Commission for Africa (UNECA), as part of ongoing efforts to strengthen collaboration between the Commission and Member States.
The engagement focused on advancing the implementation of Agenda 2063, the African Union’s strategic framework for inclusive growth and sustainable development. Both leaders reviewed progress made and explored ways to enhance cooperation ahead of key African Union policy meetings, including the forthcoming sessions of the Permanent Representatives’ Committee (PRC) and the Executive Council in Egypt.
Among the issues discussed was the need to secure sustainable and predictable financing mechanisms for the African Union. The leaders emphasized responsible financial stewardship and reflected on preparations for the proposed 2027 budget, highlighting its significance in supporting the Union’s priorities and long-term goals.
The discussions also touched on the upcoming Executive Council and Mid-Year Coordination Meeting scheduled for late June 2026. These gatherings are expected to play a crucial role in fostering policy alignment and strengthening coordination among African Union institutions and Member States.
The meeting concluded with a shared commitment to deeper engagement, stronger partnerships, and collective responsibility in advancing Africa’s development agenda. Both sides reaffirmed the importance of maintaining close cooperation to ensure effective decision-making and successful implementation of continental initiatives.
Through such consultations, the African Union Commission continues to reinforce its partnership with Member States, promoting unity, accountability, and a common vision for Africa’s future.
