Lira City, Uganda – Patrick Opige Okwel has officially announced his intention to run for the mayoral seat of Lira City under the National Resistance Movement (NRM) ticket, with a strong commitment to eradicating counterfeit products and fostering development in the city.
Speaking to reporters on Sunday, Opige expressed deep concern over the proliferation of fake goods, including counterfeit eggs and foul-smelling cooking oil, which he says endanger public health.
“When elected, I will not allow these fake products in our markets,"Opige declared. “Our people deserve quality and safe goods. I will work with enforcement agencies to ensure that substandard items are completely eliminated from Lira City.
Opige praised the NRM government for its developmental achievements in Lira City, citing road construction, the Parish Development Model (PDM), and other infrastructure projects as key milestones.
“The NRM has done so much for Lira—better roads, improved services, and economic programs like PDM," he said. “But for more progress, we must work closely with the government and its leaders, including our own Health Minister, Dr. Jane Ruth Aceng Ocero."
