OYAM DISTRICT, Uganda – The territorial Police in Oyam District are investigating a suspected aggravated robbery and attempted murder after a Pakistani national was stabbed and robbed at Med Minder Pharmacy in Kamdini Town Council on the evening of June 22, 2026.
The victim, Ali Nazim, aged 35, a manager at the pharmacy, was attacked at about 9:00 PM while locking up the premises to return to his residence. According to police, an unidentified assailant approached the pharmacy pretending to be a customer interested in buying drugs.
Upon gaining entrance, the suspect pushed the victim inside, brandished what appeared to be a pistol, and ordered him to remain silent. He then dragged Nazim into the drug store and demanded all money from sales made over the previous three days, cash which had not yet been banked.
The victim surrendered the unspecified amount, but the assailant proceeded to stab him in the stomach, leaving him with serious bleeding before fleeing the scene.
With the help of a good Samaritan and coordination with his boss, Hussein Iftikhar in Gulu, the victim received first aid in Kamdini and was rushed to St. Mary's Hospital Lacor in Gulu City. He is currently admitted and receiving medical care.
Police were alerted to the incident through a call from the RCIO Aswa West to the RCIO North Kyoga, who then informed the Officer-in-Charge (OC) Kamdini. The team responded immediately but found the victim had already been evacuated for urgent medical attention. The scene was cordoned off for thorough documentation.
Preliminary investigations suggest that one or two of the three employees at the pharmacy may have conspired with the assailant. Police note that the suspect demanded money he knew was available—specifically sales from the last three days that had not been deposited in the bank—indicating prior knowledge of the store's operations.
According to the victim's account to his boss while hospitalized, the assailant is believed to be a familiar figure within Kamdini Town Council.
Police have initiated several measures to apprehend the suspect, including:Plans to arrest the three pharmacy employees for further interviewing to establish possible collusion,Reviewing CCTV footage from the pharmacy to aid in identifying the suspect,Deploying K9 (sniffer dogs) to the scene to help trace the assailant.
The North Kyoga Police Spokesperson, SP Patrick Jimmy Okema, expressed concern that many community members do not have phone contacts of their area police commanders for swift emergency response.
"We encourage locals to interest themselves in acquiring phone contacts for area OCs for better coordination in case of any incidents," Okema said.
The case of aggravated robbery and attempted murder has been registered at Kamdini Police Station, Oyam District, as investigations continue.
