Lira, Uganda – Lira District Woman Member of Parliament, Linda Agnes Auma, has reaffirmed her commitment to fulfilling her 2021 campaign promise of distributing aluminum saucepans to every homestead in her constituency, aiming to complete the exercise by June 2026.
The initiative, which she launched to help curb domestic violence by easing household cooking challenges, has seen her move from parish to parish delivering saucepans. Over the weekend, Auma distributed more than 1,500 saucepans at Alebere Parish and more than 1,000 saucepans in Ajia parish, bringing her closer to her target.
During her campaigns, Auma pledged that each homestead would receive a saucepan to reduce domestic conflicts arising from kitchen struggles. Despite skepticism from opponents, she has steadily delivered on her promise since being elected.
"Some people doubted me, saying I would not fulfill my word, but now they are ashamed like the devil," Auma said during her address at Alebere. She also revealed that some political opponents are planning to sue her, accusing her of vote-buying if she continues distributing saucepans beyond June.
"I know their schemes, but as a wise leader, I will not be intimidated. My goal is to serve my people, not to play politics with their needs," she asserted.
Several beneficiaries, mostly women, praised the legislator for keeping her word. "Many politicians make promises and disappear, but Auma has shown she is different. We will support her again in 2026," said one of the recipients.
Auma urged voters in Lira District to reject selfish leaders who do not prioritize their welfare. "Elect leaders who care for you, not those who only appear during elections," she cautioned.
With her distribution exercise progressing, Auma remains confident that her initiative will not only improve household welfare but also strengthen her connection with constituents ahead of the next elections.
