Lira, Uganda – James Ocen, the proprietor of Faith Secondary School and Giftlife Care Clinic, has intensified his campaign to secure the Uganda People’s Congress (UPC) flag bearer ticket for the Lira City East Division parliamentary seat.
Addressing UPC delegates in Lira City East, Ocen positioned himself as the strongest candidate capable of defeating opponents from rival political parties in the upcoming elections. He faces stiff competition from over five contenders within UPC but remains optimistic about his chances.
“I am the most capable candidate to retain UPC’s dominance in Lira City East,"Ocen declared. I have already started serving the people through healthcare and education, not just in Lira but across Lango sub-region. My track record speaks for itself.
Ocen also revealed that UPC President Jimmy Akena Obote, who is contesting for Uganda’s presidency in 2026, has endorsed his bid to succeed him as Lira City East MP.
“Hon. Akena has blessed my ambition, and I will ensure the UPC flag continues to fly high here," he said.
Political analysts suggest that Ocen’s grassroots initiatives in education and healthcare could give him an edge, but the race remains highly competitive. With UPC seeking to maintain its stronghold in Lango, all eyes are on the upcoming delegate elections to determine who will carry the party’s flag into the 2026 polls.
As the campaigns heat up, Ocen’s message of continuity and service delivery is resonating with many delegates, setting the stage for a fierce contest in Lira City East.
