KOLE, UGANDA — A political storm is brewing in Kole District, with the NRM District Chairman issuing an urgent distress call to the party's top leadership, warning that the district is "already slipping into the hands of UPC and NUP" and may be lost forever without immediate intervention.
In a letter dated August 24, 2026, addressed to the Rt. Hon. Richard Todwong, Secretary General of the NRM, Mr. Anyati Lilian — the NRM District Chairman and NEC Member for Kole — painted a grim picture of internal betrayal, electoral manipulation, and a systematic campaign to undermine the ruling party.
The letter, marked "REF: A real emergency that deserves your immediate and timely intervention," leaves no room for ambiguity about the severity of the situation.
"The gravity of the matter is well and above our District Authority," wrote Anyati. "Kole District is already slipping into the hands of UPC and NUP. That is why we need your very urgent action now, or we shall never be able to save Kole from other political infiltrators."
The chairman warned that time is running out, describing the situation as a "real emergency" requiring the personal attention of the Secretary General.
In his letter, Anyati leveled serious accusations against unnamed "NRM political giants (MPs)" who he claims are actively working against the party. According to the chairman, these leaders are:Actively peddling the process of de-campaigning NRM in favor of UPC and NUP candidates,Blocking NRM candidates in the ongoing Women Council elections at all levels — village, parish, sub-county, and district,Using NRM certification (stamps) to validate votes for opposition and independent candidates
"This is a gross betrayal of the party that gave them their platforms," Anyati charged.
The chairman provided concrete evidence of alleged electoral malfeasance:
Hon. Judith Alyek, an NRM candidate, was reportedly blocked from the chairmanship at the sub-county level. In a brazen act of electoral interference, five voters were forcefully "snatched" from her NRM camp and directed to vote for an independent candidate instead.
At the district level, eight out of ten voters were allegedly "snatched" from the NRM camp after being deceived into believing it was "their right" to vote for independent UPC candidates.
"Sir, even if it is their right to vote for any other parties as they may wish, they cannot use our certification (stamp) to vote for independent or any other party other than our NRM," Anyati stated emphatically.
In light of these alleged irregularities, the Kole District Chairman has made an urgent request to the Secretary General:
"We request your authority to withdraw the powers of our NRM stamp and nullify all other elections at sub-county and district (NRM elections), and carry out re-elections at the sub-county and district levels."
The chairman argued that only such drastic action can "save Kole from the grips of UPC and other parties."
Political analysts suggest that if the allegations are true, they represent a dangerous precedent — party leaders using their positions to undermine their own candidates, potentially destabilizing the NRM's electoral machinery in the region.
