North Kyoga Police Urge Order as MP Nominations Begin Wednesday
I Will Vote Eddy Morrish Ogweng For MP Lira City West 2026-2031

LIRA, Uganda – The North Kyoga Regional Police have issued a strong appeal for calm and order ahead of the nomination of Parliamentary candidates scheduled for this Wednesday and Thursday.

In a statement released today, the Regional Police Spokesperson, SP  Patrick Jimmy Okema, specifically called on all aspiring MPs and their supporters to adhere strictly to the guidelines set by the Electoral Commission.

“Kindly, we call all aspiring candidates with their supporters to respect and follow guidance from the office of the Election Commission,” stated Okema. “As security, it is within our mandate to provide security to all at the nomination centre and other places that require security.”

The police reassurance is aimed at ensuring a smooth and peaceful nomination process, a phase that often attracts large and sometimes unruly crowds. Mr. Okema's statement underscores the security apparatus's preparedness to deploy and maintain law and order.

The emphasis on following Electoral Commission guidelines likely pertains to rules governing the conduct of processions, the size of delegations accompanying candidates to the nomination centre, and the general code of conduct for political actors.

The North Kyoga Police PRO's message is clear: while the force is ready to protect everyone involved in the democratic process, it will also not hesitate to act against anyone who disrupts the peace or flouts the established regulations.

Aspiring candidates are expected to present their papers at the designated nomination centre, with security personnel providing a perimeter and ensuring only authorized individuals access sensitive areas.

The public is advised to cooperate with security officials and follow official updates from the Police and Electoral Commission for a seamless exercise.
