NRM's Wealth Creation Drive in Action: Museveni, Maama Janet Open Busega Market

KAMPALA – President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni and First Lady Maama Janet Museveni officially commissioned the newly constructed Busega Market in a ceremony held this afternoon, marking a significant upgrade for local traders in the area.

Beaming as they toured the modern stalls, the President and First Lady expressed their satisfaction with the facility, which promises a stark contrast to the previous challenges faced by vendors operating on the roadside.

"This afternoon, Maama Janet and I were very happy to launch this new Busega Market," President Museveni stated. "This modern facility provides our hardworking traders with a safe, clean, and organised space to conduct their business. It is a far better solution than selling on the roadside, where they constantly faced losses, especially during bad weather."

The President directly linked the market's opening to the National Resistance Movement (NRM)'s core economic philosophy. "The message of the NRM is clear," he emphasized. "We must all work diligently to create wealth. Whether you are an owner or a worker, everyone should be actively engaged. Idleness is not acceptable in building our nation."

President Museveni specifically commended the economic direction of the Busega community. "I was encouraged to see that the people of Busega are focusing their energies on valuable services such as trading, vending, and running small shops. This is productive work that contributes to the local economy and household incomes," he remarked, validating the small-scale service sector as a legitimate and important path to prosperity.

The new Busega Market is expected to house hundreds of traders previously exposed to the elements and hazards of roadside vending. Features include covered stalls, improved sanitation facilities, better security, and organised layouts designed to enhance business operations and customer access. The launch was met with enthusiasm from vendors ready to occupy their new spaces, anticipating increased stability and better business prospects.

The project underscores the government's ongoing efforts, championed by the President and First Lady, to improve market infrastructure across the country, aiming to boost trade, protect livelihoods, and formalize the informal sector.
