NRM Primaries Tribunal Gears Up: 380 Petition Hearings Start Tuesday

KAMPALA, UGANDA – July 26th, 2025: The tribunal tasked with resolving disputes arising from the recent National Resistance Movement (NRM) parliamentary primaries will officially commence hearings next Tuesday, July 29th, 2025, at 9:00 a.m.

The announcement was made today by the Tribunal Chairman, Mr. John Musiime, during a press conference held at the tribunal's offices on Plot 30, Kyadondo Road, Kampala.

Mr. Musiime declared the tribunal fully prepared to handle the substantial caseload before it. "We are ready and prepared to handle the 380 electoral petitions we have received," he stated, underscoring the tribunal's commitment to addressing the grievances filed by party members following the hotly contested primaries.

Echoing procedural requirements, Mr. Enoch Barata, the NRM Director of Legal Counsel, issued a critical reminder to all petitioners. He emphasized that petitioners must formally serve a copy of their petition documents not only to the tribunal itself but also directly to the respondents named in their cases. This step is essential for ensuring due process as the hearings begin.

The commencement of these tribunal proceedings marks a crucial phase in resolving internal NRM disputes ahead of the upcoming general elections, with the outcomes potentially impacting the final list of the party's parliamentary flag bearers. All eyes will now turn to Plot 30, Kyadondo Road, next Tuesday morning as the first petitions are heard.
