
LIRA, UGANDA – The Government Chief Whip and Vice Chairperson of the National Resistance Movement (NRM) for Northern Uganda, Hon. Denis Hamson Obua, has officially announced that President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni will commence his 2026 presidential re-election campaign in the Lango sub-region.
The announcement was made today during a high-level briefing conducted by a delegation from the NRM Central Executive Committee (CEC) and the Party Secretariat to the expanded District Executive Committees of the NRM in Lango.
Addressing party members, leaders, and the people of Lango, Hon. Obua, who is also the Member of Parliament for Ajuri County, revealed that the campaign will begin on Wednesday, October 1, 2025, and see the President traverse the entire sub-region for one week, concluding on October 7, 2025.
"The Presidential Candidate of the NRM, His Excellency the President of the Republic of Uganda and National Chairman of the NRM, General Yoweri Kaguta Museveni, will kickstart his presidential campaign on Wednesday, first October 2025, and the first rally will be in Amolatar in the morning," Obua stated.
Detailed Campaign Itinerary for First Two Days:
· Day 1: Wednesday, October 1, 2025: President Museveni will hold his inaugural campaign rally in Amolatar District. On the same day, he will proceed to address a second rally in Dokolo District.
· Day 2: Thursday, October 2, 2025: The President is scheduled to campaign in the districts of Alebtong and Otuke.
Hon. Obua confirmed that over the subsequent days, the NRM presidential candidate will cover all remaining districts and cities within the Lango sub-region.
In his address, Obua issued a rallying call to the people of Lango, urging them to turn out in massive numbers to support the President. "We wish to call upon all the members of NRM of Lango and the people of Lango to give President Museveni votes so that he can have a landslide win in 2026 to lead Uganda from 2026 to 2031," he declared.
The decision to launch the high-stakes campaign in Lango is seen as a strategic move by the ruling party to consolidate support in Northern Uganda. The week-long engagement is expected to energize the party base and engage communities directly ahead of the 2026 general elections.
