MARUZI – After five years at the helm of Maruzi Seed Secondary School, Headteacher Oyera Daniel Aquila has officially retired. A colourful farewell function held yesterday, Saturday, at the school compound drew a large crowd of scholars, parents, teachers, and board members who witnessed his handover.
In his emotional address, Oyera expressed gratitude to the Board of Governors (BOG), parents, teaching staff, and students, describing his tenure as "a collective responsibility."

"I thank everyone who walked this journey with me. The work we accomplished was never mine alone," Oyera said. He urged the remaining staff to continue exhibiting the spirit of unity even as he exits for mandatory retirement.

The ceremony also served as a launchpad for a major development project. Engineer James Robert Ajal, the BOG Chairperson, praised Oyera for his hard work and for significantly lifting the education standard at Maruzi Seed SS.

In a surprise announcement, Ajal revealed that the school will name its new examinations hall after the outgoing headteacher. "We will construct an exams hall with a capacity of 400 people. It will be named Oyera Donald Aquila Hall," Ajal declared, drawing applause from the audience.
Oyera’s path to leadership began at Loro Primary School, where he completed his P.7. He later joined St. Joseph Seminary Aboke for two years, before proceeding to Ngai Secondary School and later to DOC in 1988.
He joined the Institute of Teacher Education, Kyambogo branch (based in Ngetta), and subsequently earned a degree from Makerere University. Not stopping there, Oyera joined the Uganda Management Institute (UMI) for a Post Graduate Diploma in Management, followed by a Master’s degree in Management Studies from UMI.
He joined Maruzi Seed SS in 2022, replacing the then-headteacher Dolly Akwero. His successor is yet to be named by the education authorities.
