Addressing the press, the retired army officer firmly dismissed rumors which has been circulating in Aromo sub county that he is not contesting after his former boss whom he had been his assistant private secretary President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni had told him not to contest and to stay out of the political arena. "I will not back down from politics, because I have a better idea for the people of Erute north,lango and Uganda ," Opio stated with resolve. "I believe I am a better candidate, and I will be the victor in the coming election."
The retired Major's confidence stems from a clear sense of purpose. He outlined a three-pronged mission for his candidacy: to eradicate poverty, fight corruption, and bring good leadership to the constituency. "This is not just about holding a position; it is about serving the people with integrity and a clear vision for development," he added.
His political journey is set to formalize on Wednesday, 22nd October 2025, when he is scheduled to receive his nomination papers. Following this official step, Opio plans to connect directly with the electorate at a grassroots level, with a major address to the people at his home in Agweng Town Council.
The event in Agweng is anticipated to be the formal launchpad of his campaign, where he is expected to elaborate on his plans to tackle the core issues of poverty and governance. His message suggests a campaign built on discipline, integrity, and a direct challenge to the status quo.
