LIRA, UGANDA – In a significant show of regional support, NRM delegates from Otuke and Alebtong districts have unanimously endorsed the Speaker of Parliament, Rt. Hon. Anita Annet Among, for the position of Second National Vice Chairperson (Female) on the ruling National Resistance Movement (NRM)'s powerful Central Executive Committee (CEC).
The endorsement came during separate consultative meetings held in the two districts, where delegates pledged their full backing to Speaker Among's bid for the influential party position.
Julius Acon Bua, the NRM District Chairperson for Otuke, declared unwavering support for Speaker Among. "We stand firmly behind our Speaker. We will not disappoint her; Otuke delegates promise her 100% of our votes," Bua stated emphatically. He lauded Among as "a very good person who has love and respect for everyone," highlighting her character as a key reason for their support.
Robert Ocen, the NRM District Chairperson for Alebtong, echoed this sentiment, confirming the unanimous endorsement from his district's delegates and emphasizing their commitment to Speaker Among's candidacy.
While pledging their political support, the delegates presented Speaker Among with a clear list of development priorities they expect her to champion if elected to the CEC.
In Otuke, the District NRM General Secretary, Simon Obong Opio, formally presented their requests. The top demand is the urgent tarmacking of the critical Lira-Otuke-Abim road, a vital artery for the region's economy and connectivity. Additionally, Otuke delegates pressed for the elevation of Orum Health Center IV to the status of a fully-fledged District Hospital to improve healthcare access.
Alebtong district leadership, led by Chairperson Robert Ocen, strongly aligned with the road demand, emphasizing its importance for both districts. "Tarmacking the Lira-Otuke-Abim road is key for the development of both Alebtong and Otuke," Ocen stressed. He further requested the opening and development of the Lira-Aloi-Omoro-Angetta road to better connect Alebtong residents to Abim and Kapyelebyong districts.
Alebtong also joined the call for improved healthcare, seeking the upgrade of Alebtong Health Center IV to a District Hospital. Furthermore, Ocen advocated for the creation of two new constituencies by separating areas from Ajuri and Moroto.
Demonstrating their commitment to the NRM leadership, delegates from both Otuke and Alebtong pledged vigorous mobilization efforts for the upcoming 2026 general elections. They vowed to ensure President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni secures an overwhelming victory, specifically targeting more than 90% of the vote in their districts.
The endorsements from Otuke and Alebtong represent significant grassroots backing for Speaker Among's bid to join the NRM's top leadership body, while simultaneously highlighting the pressing infrastructure and service delivery needs of the Lango sub-region. The delegates have made it clear that their support is coupled with strong expectations for tangible development outcomes.
