ALWORO PARISH, AMACH SUB-COUNTY (LIRA) – In a significant move towards party unity, Lira District Woman Member of Parliament, Linda Agnes Auma, has publicly declared her support for Sam Engola, the National Resistance Movement (NRM) flag bearer for the Erute South Constituency parliamentary seat.
This declaration marks a notable shift, as Auma had actively supported Abdul George during the recently concluded competitive NRM primary elections where George contested against Engola for the party ticket.
Speaking on Sunday to a large gathering of residents in Alworo Parish, Amach Sub-county – who had assembled to receive saucepans distributed by the MP – Auma emphasized the need for cohesion now that the internal party contest was settled.
“Now that the primary election is over, I will work together with Engola Sam since we are both NRM flag bearers," Auma stated clearly to the assembled crowd.
Addressing circulating rumors suggesting discord, the MP urged constituents to disregard them: “People should listen to words moving around that I will not support Engola... but I will work with Engola and that there is no more issue of Abdul George." Her statement aimed to quell any speculation of lingering division within the party ranks locally.
The event also served as a significant constituency outreach effort, with MP Auma distributing saucepans to the community. Over 2,000 residents from Alworo Parish reportedly received the items during the gathering.
Auma's pledge of support for Engola signals a closing of ranks within the NRM in Erute South as the party looks ahead to the general elections, seeking to present a united front to voters. Her message, delivered alongside tangible community support, reinforces her position as a key party figure in the district.
