LIRA, UGANDA – The Lango Sub-region and the wider cultural community in Uganda are in a state of mourning following the passing of their Paramount Chief, His Royal Highness Yosam Odur Ebii. The revered cultural leader, who was 99 years old, died this morning, as confirmed by his son.
The sad news was broken by Anthony Olobo Odur, the son of the late chief, who stated that his father passed away peacefully at 4:20 AM. In a poignant revelation, Olobo shared that the centenarian chief took his last breath in his arms.
“Mzee Yosam Odur Ebii died today in the morning at 4:20 am,” Olobo confirmed. “He died on my hand.”
Providing details on his father's recent health, Olobo mentioned that the late chief had been under medical care. “The day before yesterday, I had taken him for a review at Lira University Hospital,” he added, indicating that the family was actively managing his health until the very end.
As the news of his passing spreads, a cloud of grief has descended over the Lango people, for whom the Paramount Chief was a unifying figure and a living repository of their culture and traditions.
During this difficult time, the family is appealing for support and solidarity from the community. Anthony Olobo Odur has called upon the people of Lango to stand with the bereaved family as they navigate this profound loss.
“He called on people of Lango to stand with the family who will soon announce the burial program later,” the statement concluded.
