Lango NRM Delegates Unanimously Back Anita Among for Top Party Role, Demand New District

Oyam/Kole/Lira – NRM delegates across Lango sub-region have overwhelmingly endorsed Speaker of Parliament Anita Among for the position of Second National Vice Chairperson of the ruling party, coupling their support with specific development demands for their districts.


In coordinated rallies across Oyam, Kole, Lira District, and Lira City, delegates pledged unanimous backing for Among’s bid to join the NRM’s Central Executive Committee (CEC). The endorsement, however, came with clear expectations:





Oyam delegates, led by District NRM Chairperson Bosco Onyik Ogwal, declared support conditional on Among facilitating the creation of Aber District,carved from Oyam. "Our delegates want Aber District. We trust Speaker Among to deliver this," Ogwal stated.





Kole delegates demanded elevation of Aboke Health Center IV to a District Hospital,tarmacking of key roads, and government compensation for a bus belonging to Aculbanya Secondary School.


Lira District and City delegates endorsed Among without preconditions, citing her influence and accessibility. 


Julius Acon Bua, Among’s campaign coordinator in Lango, asserted: "She is tested, trusted, and in the system to lobby for our development. Electing her to CEC means progress for Lango."


Gyaviira Ssemwanga(Buyamba MP, Rakai): "Among doesn’t segregate. She helped Museveni pass critical bills and will respect him." He highlighted her role in passing the Anti-Homosexuality Actas defending "African values."  

Andrew Ojok Oulanya(Omoro County MP, son of late Speaker Jacob Oulanya): "Among is a valid person – her CEC role will benefit all."  


Patrick Okwir(Lira City Speaker): "This isn’t a retirement package. Among works for the elderly, special groups, and the common person."


The endorsements position Among as a unifying figure with tangible leverage to deliver regional development ahead of the NRM internal elections. Delegates emphasized her loyalty to President Museveni and legislative toughness as key assets for the party’s top leadership.
