IG BURIES OPM BIG MAN – COMMISSIONER, SIX OTHERS PINNED FOR EXTORTING REFUGEES

KAMPALA – The long arm of the law just slapped the taste out of some greedy mouths.

In a dawn raid that left tongues wagging across the city, the Inspector General of Government (IGG) has arrested the big fish at the Office of the Prime Minister (OPM) – the Commissioner for Refugee Management himself, Mr. Patrick Okello.

And he didn't come alone. Five other top OPM officials plus one Pakistani national are now singing soprano at IGG headquarters.

THE LINEUP (No celebration, straight to jail):

· Patrick Okello – Commissioner (The Don)

· Asiimwe Douglas – Assistant Commissioner

· Mugabe Geoffrey – Senior Settlement Commandant

· Ekwap Noel – Head of IT (Yes, even the tech guy)

· Bweme Henry – Registration Officer

· Nadiope Arnold – Refugee Status Interviewing Officer

· Zafar Ahamad – Pakistani national (The Connector)

THE DIRT

According to street-level intel from IGG investigators, this crew turned the refugee registration process into a toll station. Desperate people fleeing war and hunger? They saw dollar signs.

But the plot twist is Mr. Zafar Ahamad, a Pakistani national who allegedly played the role of "middleman" – linking desperate refugees to the OPM officials. Think of him as the broker for extortion. You want papers? Pay through him.

THE RAID

Before the cuffs clicked, IGG stormed their offices and homes, scooping "critical documents" that investigators say are so juicy they'll seal the case faster than a speeding police pick-up.

All seven have already recorded statements at the IGG offices. Sources say their phones were ringing off the hook – but nobody's picking up bail calls just yet.

THE BOTTOM LINE

The government is trying to clean house, and this move sends a clear message: You can run the registration desk, but you can't run from the IGG.

Refugees who have been paying "under-the-table fees" just to be recognized? They might finally catch a break. As for the Commissioner and his crew – their next "settlement" might be Luzira.
