Fresh Mandate, New Energy: Kole Woman MP Sandra Aceng Odongo Takes Oath, Promises People-Centered Laws

KOLE, UGANDA – The newly elected Woman Member of Parliament for Kole District, Hon. Sandra Aceng Odongo, was today sworn into the 12th Parliament, promising to work tirelessly for the people of Kole and ensure that the broader Lango sub-region receives a fair share of the national budget.

Aceng took the oath of office at the Parliamentary Chambers in Kampala, marking the beginning of her tenure as the district's female representative. In her maiden remarks shortly after the ceremony, she struck a tone of determination and service, assuring constituents that her leadership would bring visible and positive change.

"I am here to work hard for Kole. There will be many positive changes in the lives of the people of Kole," Aceng declared. "I will pass laws that are in the interest of the people of Kole. Every piece of legislation I support will be measured by one question: does it benefit my people?"

The new lawmaker, whose campaign focused on economic empowerment and social services, did not shy away from the fiscal realities facing the district. She specifically pledged to lobby aggressively to ensure that the Lango sub-region benefits equitably from the national budget.

"For too long, our region has lagged behind in resource allocation. I will use every tool available to me as a Member of Parliament to lobby for Lango," Aceng said. "Whether it is roads, healthcare, education, or agriculture, Lango must benefit from the budget. That is not a request—it is a demand."

Aceng’s swearing-in comes at a time when Kole District, like many rural districts, faces challenges including inadequate infrastructure, limited access to clean water, and gaps in maternal healthcare. Political analysts note that her success will depend largely on her ability to translate campaign promises into tangible legislative and lobbying outcomes.

The lawmaker concluded by calling on the people of Kole to remain engaged with her office. "Watch my work. Hold me accountable. Together, we will write a new chapter for Kole District."

Hon. Sandra Aceng Odongo now joins the ranks of the 11th Parliament as it begins its full legislative schedule. Her supporters in Kole celebrated the occasion with small gatherings and prayers for a successful term.
