Lira, Uganda | August 17, 2025 — Dr. Chris Baryomunsi, the Minister for Information, Communication, Technology, and National Guidance, has officially entered the race for National Resistance Movement (NRM) Vice Chairperson for the Western Region. His campaign launch took place yesterday at the Good News Hotel in Lira City, where he addressed enthusiastic party delegates from the Lango Subregion.
In his keynote address, Dr. Baryomunsi made a passionate case for principled, people-centered leadership within the NRM. “I urge you, delegates, to vote for a rightful person—one who will amplify your concerns at the highest level of our party,” he told the gathering, emphasizing his commitment to peace, unity, and inclusive development.
A seasoned political figure and key member of the NRM, Dr. Baryomunsi used the platform to unveil a forward-looking agenda, including a promise to equip all NRM offices nationwide with laptops and critical office tools. “Technology is key to efficient service delivery. I will ensure our party structures are empowered with the tools they need to serve the people effectively,” he noted, linking his campaign vision to his achievements as ICT Minister.
Dr. Baryomunsi also highlighted the importance of empowering grassroots structures, particularly in underserved regions, to ensure that no part of Uganda is left behind. “My fight has always been for peace and progress. With your support, I will bring these values to the CEC,” he said.
As the NRM prepares for its Central Executive Committee (CEC) meeting scheduled for August 27–28, the political atmosphere is intensifying. Other aspirants, such as Kiwanda Godfrey Ssuubi, have also joined the fray, calling for internal party cohesion. Ssuubi remarked, “A brother cannot stand against his brother when both are contesting. NRM is our party, and we must advocate for our mighty party’s unity.”
As the campaign gains momentum, Baryomunsi’s message of modernization, representation, and development is resonating with delegates. The upcoming NRM primaries will determine whether his blend of experience, vision, and digital focus can sway the party’s decision-making base in his favor.
