Auma & Abdul George Sweep Lira NRM Leadership Elections

Lira, August 1, 2025 – In a significant shift for the ruling National Resistance Movement (NRM) in Lira District, Linda Agness Auma has unseated incumbent Sam Engola to become the new District Chairperson. The closely watched election concluded today at Itek Sub County.

Ms. Auma secured a decisive victory, polling 188 votes against Mr. Engola's 155 votes. The results, declared by the Electoral Commission official Zaitun Driwaro, mark a clear mandate for Auma to lead the party's district chapter.

The leadership change extended to the Vice Chairperson position. Abdul George emerged victorious in that contest, defeating Peter Okello Oyo by a substantial margin. George garnered 193 votes, while Okello Oyo received 120 votes.

The outcome represents a notable shift in the district's NRM leadership structure. Auma's victory over Engola, a prominent figure, signals a new direction for the party at the grassroots level in Lira. Both Auma and George now carry the responsibility of leading the NRM's activities and mobilisation efforts across the district.
