Angwec Collin Elected LPG General Secretary as Lango MPs Usher in New Leadership

Hon. Collins Angwech, the  Member of Parliament for Kyoga County, has been elected the new General Secretary of the Lango Parliamentary Group (LPG) during the caucus's sitting held today, Thursday, June 4, 2026.


The high-level meeting took place under the outgoing Chairmanship of Hon. Sam Engola, the Minister for Disaster Preparedness and Refugees, who presided over the elections. The session was also graced by three other prominent Lango ministers: Hon. Jane Ruth Acheng (Government Chief Whip), Hon. Santa Alum (Minister of State for Economic Monitoring, Office of the President), and Hon. Mercy Lakisa (Minister of State for Youth & Child Affairs).


Guided by the LPG constitution, the group successfully elected its new office bearers as follows:


1. Chairperson: Hon. Patrick Ogwang Obura (MP Oyam South)

2. Vice Chairperson: Hon. Janet Auma (WMP Amolatar District)

3. General Secretary: Hon. Collins Angwech (WMP Kyoga County)

4. Treasurer: Hon. Julius Acon (MP Otuke County)

5. Publicity Secretary: Hon. Joseph Jones Ogwal (MP Dokolo North)


The elections were described by members as free and fair, with Hon. Sam Engola ensuring a transparent process from start to finish.

Addressing the gathering, the four attending ministers encouraged all members of Parliament from Lango to work together irrespective of their political party allegiances. They emphasized the importance of teamwork, mutual respect, and strict adherence to parliamentary rules and procedures as they conduct business on the floor of Parliament


In their first remarks following the election, the new leadership pledged to work together harmoniously, building on the knowledge and experience of the outgoing executive. They vowed to place the Lango agenda ahead of all other business, ensuring that the subregion speaks with one voice on critical development issues.


On behalf of the entire Lango subregion, the LPG members congratulated the four appointed ministers from Lango and extended a special vote of thanks to His Excellency Yoweri Kaguta Museveni for the trust he has placed in their leaders.


The caucus further pledged to serve beyond party lines and colors, promising to complement each other in all matters of leadership and constituency development across Lango.


The new executive is expected to be formally inaugurated soon, with Hon. Collins Angwech taking on the crucial role of coordinating the group's secretariat and communications.
