ENTEBBE, Uganda – The Ugandan diaspora community has thrown its weight behind the newly appointed Minister of Foreign Affairs, Hon. Amb. Adonia Ayebare, with diaspora representative Dickson Ogwang Okul describing his ascension as a "pivotal moment" for the country's international engagement.
Speaking yesterday after President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni presided over the swearing-in ceremony at State House Entebbe, Okul, who serves under Diaspora Services, extended warm congratulations to Ayebare and the two other ministers who took office—Hon. Shartsi Kutesa Musherure (Minister of State for Finance, Planning and Economic Development in charge of Micro-Finance) and Hon. Witonze Juma (Minister of State for Internal Affairs).
Okul specifically praised Ayebare's vision of "driving result-oriented diplomacy to deliver tangible outcomes for Uganda," emphasizing that this approach comes at a crucial time for the nation.
"Your vision of driving result-oriented diplomacy to deliver tangible outcomes for Uganda comes at a pivotal moment," Okul stated in his congratulatory message. "It is an honor to serve under your leadership as you step into this crucial role, and I look forward to supporting your agenda and vision to advance our nation's international standing and strategic interests on the global stage."
Okul further affirmed his commitment to supporting the new minister's agenda, wishing him "immense success in leading the ministry and executing this important national duty."
During the ceremony, President Museveni congratulated the three appointees but issued a firm directive, urging them to prioritize the elimination of corruption and inefficiency within government through proper supervision and accountability.
The President also addressed Uganda's dual citizenship policy, acknowledging its necessity in healing the country's difficult history while cautioning citizens to remain clear about where their loyalty resides.
"The East African Federation remains the long-term solution to questions of identity and integration in our region," Museveni emphasized, reaffirming his vision for regional unity.
The swearing-in marks a significant reshuffle as the new ministers assume their portfolios, with the diaspora community under Okul's representation signaling readiness to collaborate with Ayebare in advancing Uganda's strategic interests globally.
