OTUKE, Uganda – The stage is set for a competitive three-way race for the Otuke District Woman Member of Parliament seat as Hon. Grace Abote, the Uganda Peoples Congress (UPC) flag bearer, has confirmed her official nomination scheduled for Wednesday, October 22, 2025.
In an exclusive communication, Abote confirmed to our news desk that she will be nominated at 11:00 AM at the Electoral Commission offices in Otuke Town Council.
Abote enters the electoral arena against two formidable opponents: the incumbent, Hon. Susan Abeja Okello, who carries the flag of the National Resistance Movement (NRM), and Hon. Rosemary Akullu, who is running as an Independent candidate. This sets the stage for a keenly contested battle in the lead-up to the 2026 general elections.
Distinguishing her bid, Hon. Abote is presenting a record of community development undertaken long before the official campaign season. Her campaign highlights a series of grassroots initiatives, positioning her as a leader already in touch with the needs of her constituents. These pre-emptive actions include:
.The rehabilitation of critical road networks in areas including Ogwete, Olilim, Okwang, and Otuke Town Council.
· Restoring access to clean water by rehabilitating boreholes across all 14 sub-counties in the district.
· Providing material and financial support to various women's groups.
· Offering support to candidate classes during examination periods to bolster education.
· Contributing to various churches in Otuke without religious discrimination.
· Empowering the youth through the distribution of sports equipment to clubs across the district.
Abote stated that her decision to run followed a period of careful reflection on the needs and voices of the people of Otuke. "My commitment remains firmly rooted in addressing their everyday challenges," she noted.
Emphasizing her future agenda, she pledged that upon being elected, her priorities will center on improving education standards, supporting the agricultural sector, enhancing healthcare services, and continuing the economic empowerment of women and youth.
Her announcement has generated excitement among her supporters, who view her political bid as a demonstration of courage and a genuine commitment to the people's welfare.
As she formalizes her candidacy this Wednesday, Hon. Grace Abote signals the beginning of a vigorous campaign, aiming to convince the electorate that her brand of grassroots-focused leadership is the right choice for Otuke's future.
