Otuke District – Jaspher Abong, the Vice Chairperson of the Uganda People’s Congress (UPC) structure at Otumpili Village, Arwotngo Parish in Okwang Sub-county, has announced his intention to run for Member of Parliament for Otuke County in the upcoming 2026 general elections.
Abong, a grassroots mobiliser and longtime UPC loyalist, says his campaign will focus on delivering practical and people-centered solutions to the persistent challenges facing the people of Otuke. These include poverty, lack of access to quality education, clean and safe water, and inadequate primary healthcare services.
“My dream is to see an Otuke where every child can access good education, every family can drink clean water, and every patient can get medical attention at a nearby facility without walking miles,” Abong told Karumapost in an exclusive interview. “We can’t keep recycling politics without delivering development to our people.”
Abong emphasized that poverty alleviation will be central to his leadership agenda.
“I believe that with targeted programs in agriculture, youth empowerment, and vocational training, we can lift many households out of poverty,” he said.
As a native of Okwang Sub-county and a leader within the UPC party structures, Abong has been active in community work and youth sensitization. His nomination bid comes at a time when Otuke County residents are yearning for transformative leadership that prioritizes the people’s needs over politics.
He is expected to officially launch his campaign soon, with mobilization teams already on the ground engaging the electorate.
Abong called on the UPC leadership and supporters across Otuke to rally behind him as he seeks the party’s flag for the 2026 elections. “I am not seeking office for prestige. I am seeking it because I want to serve,” he said.
As the political season heats up, Jaspher Abong’s entry into the race adds a fresh voice to the contest — one grounded in service, equity, and practical solutions for everyday challenges.
