
Kole District, Uganda | 24th September 2025 — The territorial police in Kole District have registered a tragic road accident that claimed two lives and left a child critically injured along the Lira–Aduku Road near Akalo Comprehensive School.
The fatal incident occurred on Tuesday, 24th September 2025 at approximately 7:00 PM. According to preliminary reports, a motor vehicle with registration number UBL 284U, owned by Gulsan Construction Company and loaded with stones, suffered a tyre burst and was parked by the roadside.
Tragically, a motorcycle Reg No UEW 711E Bajjaj, carrying three people—a male rider (yet to be identified), a woman, and a child—rammed into the stationary vehicle from behind. The man and woman sustained severe injuries and were pronounced dead at the scene. The child miraculously survived but remains in critical condition at Lira Regional Referral Hospital, where they were rushed for emergency treatment.
Officers from Akalo Police Station quickly responded to the scene. The deceased were transported to the mortuary at Lira Regional Referral Hospital, where postmortems will be conducted.
The parked vehicle remains at the scene pending removal as investigations continue.
According to North Kyoga Regional Police Spokesperson, SP Patrick Jimmy Okema, the suspected cause of the accident is careless riding. He further noted that the region has recently seen a rise in road accidents, largely due to Sudden or unsafe turning by motorists,Abrupt entry onto main roads from side paths,Over speeding,Careless overtaking and Poor weather conditions
“We appeal to all road users to observe road safety rules and regulations,” said SP Okema. “Do not wait for the presence of a traffic officer to do the right thing. Let us be self-driven and responsible while on the road.”Investigations are ongoing.
