Ten NUP Supporters Remanded Until November 2025 Over Vandalized Police Vehicle, Stolen Items

LIRA, UGANDA – Ten supporters of the National Unity Platform (NUP) have been remanded to Lira Central Prison until November 12, 2025, after being charged with malicious damage to a police vehicle and theft of property worth nearly two million shillings.




The accused appeared before Lira Magistrate Jane Tibagonzeka on the evening of Thursday, October 30, 2025. They all pleaded not guilty to the charges.


The ten individuals named in the charge sheet are:

2. Bukenya Ismail

3. Lokoro Liberty

4. Nakabuye Mastura

5. Waiswa Raston

6. Nasozi Hope

7. Saliman Kagwa

8. Kamulegeya Regan

9. Katamba Stephen

10. Lubega Alison


According to prosecution records, the alleged incident occurred on Tuesday, October 28, 2025, at Obot A Village, Obot  Parish, Bar Sub County, along the Aloi Road in Lira District. The group is accused of willfully damaging a police vehicle with registration number UP-4816.


Furthermore, the charge sheet states that the suspects stole several items from the vehicle, including a laptop, a bag of clothes, and 20 liters of diesel. The total value of the stolen property is estimated at 1,892,000 Ugandan Shillings.


In a swift court proceeding, the suspects denied all allegations. Presiding Magistrate Tibagonzeka ruled that the accused be remanded in custody. They will remain at Lira Central Prison for the next two years, until their next court appearance on November 12, 2025.


The prosecution also informed the court that other suspects connected to the case are still at large. Authorities are actively searching for Geoffrey Unzima, who is identified as the main suspect in the case.
