Alebtong District, April 24, 2025 – The Territorial Police in Alebtong District are investigating a disturbing case of aggravated defilement involving a 39-year-old teacher and a 16-year-old student.
The incident was reported on April 20, 2025 by Akello Anna,a 50-year-old resident of Agweng Village, Akura Parish,after discovering that her daughter had been sexually abused by Erem Denish,a teacher at Akura Senior Secondary School where the victim is an S.2 student.
According to SP Jimmy Patrick Okema,the North Kyoga Regional Police Spokesperson, the suspect had rented a house belonging to the victim’s uncle and allegedly used his position to manipulate the minor. He reportedly convinced her to enter into a relationship with him, promising marriage, and frequently transported her to school on his motorcycle.
The abuse escalated on March 24, 2025,when the victim attended a football match at Abia Primary School.The suspect followed her and, at around 6:00 PM,took her into the school structures where he allegedly had unprotected sexual intercourse with her.
Okema said the crime came to light on April 18, 2025,when the victim and other students underwent a routine medical check-up, revealing her pregnancy. She was subsequently suspended from school and handed over to her mother, who reported the case to Akura Police Station on April 20.
Police have since: Registered a case of aggravated defilement and transferred the file to Alebtong CPS,Recorded statements from the victim, her mother, and other witnesses,Issued a PF3A form for medical examination, with results confirming the assault,Retrieved proof of age documents(immunization and baptism cards). and the teacher has been arrested and detained
SP Okema condemned the incident, stating, “It is deeply unfortunate that a teacher, entrusted with safeguarding children, instead preyed on a vulnerable student."
The case file will be forwarded to the Resident Chief State Attorney for legal advice and possible prosecution.
Authorities urge the public to remain vigilant and report any cases of abuse to the nearest police station.
