APAC/OYAM, Uganda – Police in the North Kyoga Region are investigating two separate fatal road traffic accidents that occurred on July 6, 2026, within hours of each other, claiming the lives of two individuals in Apac and Oyam Districts.

In the first incident, a police patrol vehicle was involved in a deadly collision with a motorcycle in Apac District, while the second tragedy saw a 19-year-old female passenger lose her life after being dragged under a fuel tanker along the Lira-Kamdini highway.

APAC INCIDENT: POLICE VEHICLE COLLIDES WITH MOTORCYCLE, COMMUNITY UNREST ERUPTS

Police in Apac District are investigating a fatal road traffic accident involving a Police patrol vehicle, Registration Number UP 00150, which occurred on 6th July 2026 at approximately 2015 hours at Centre C, about one kilometre from Apac Central Police Station (CPS).

Preliminary findings indicate that the Police patrol vehicle was returning from Akokoro Sub-county, where it had deployed police officers on official duty, when a motorcycle, Registration Number UDY 956S, a blue Bajaj Boxer, ridden by an unidentified male boda boda rider, knocked the left tyre of the vehicle while joining the main road.

As a result of the collision, the motorcyclist sustained fatal injuries and was pronounced dead at the scene. His body has since been conveyed to Apac General Hospital Mortuary pending postmortem examination and identification by relatives.

Following the accident, some members of the community became agitated and pelted stones at the Police officers. The situation was, however, managed, brought under control, and no further incidents were registered.

The vehicle and motorcycle have since been removed from the scene and safely parked at Apac Central Police station pending inspection by the Inspector of Vehicles (IOV) as investigations continue.

OYAM INCIDENT: TEENAGE GIRL DIES IN TANKER ACCIDENT ALONG LIRA-KAMDINI HIGHWAY

In a separate incident, one person identified as Adong Priscilla, aged 19 years, died on the spot after the motorcycle Reg No UFT 793B TVS got involved in a nasty accident with motor vehicle Reg No KBK 019Z/ZD 2038 Mercedes Benz fuel tanker. This happened on the 6th July 2026 at Acero village, Agukurude parish, Loro Town Council along Lira-Kamdini highway at around 1340hrs.

It is alleged that both the vehicle and motorcycle, while traveling in the same direction from Lira heading towards Kamdini, upon reaching Loro, the rider was in front of the vehicle riding on the extreme left. The fuel tanker bypassed the rider, hit the motorcycle on the side, causing the rider and passenger to fall off. However, the cloth of the lady got stuck on the vehicle, pulling her under the vehicle which ran over her legs.

Police were informed, the scene was visited, and the body was removed and conveyed to Anyeke HC4 pending postmortem examination. Both the motor vehicle and motorcycle have been parked at Loro police station pending inspection by the IOV.

The driver, identified as Ubao Rama Said, aged 48 years, a Kenyan national, is detained at the police as investigations continue. The rider has been rushed to an unknown medical facility by well-wishers. The cause of the accident is yet to be established.

A team comprising the Regional Police Commander (RPC) North Kyoga, the Regional Traffic Officer (RTO), the Regional Public Relations Officer (PRO), and the in-charge Professional Standards Unit (PSU) promptly responded to the Apac scene to assess the situation, establish the facts surrounding the crash, document the scene, inspect the vehicles involved, and oversee the ongoing investigations.
