Agwata, Dokolo– Canon Jane Obeny, the headteacher of Agwata Secondary School, delivered a powerful message to students during a prayer session at Agwata Joint Christian Church, urging them to embrace hard work as a divine principle.
Speaking on a program aired on QFM’s Sunday Gospel Explosion,Canon Obeny referenced the Biblical creation story, noting that “God worked for six days without rest and only rested on the seventh day."
She emphasized that work is a godly virtue and encouraged students to put faith into action through diligence.
Canon Obeny strongly criticized those who spend excessive time praying in churches without engaging in productive labor. “Prayer is good, but you must also work. Do not just move from one church to another without doing anything. Work and praise the Lord,"she said.
Retired Colonel Charles Obeny Calls for Coffee and Cocoa Farming
Adding to the call for productivity, Retired Colonel Charles Obeny, Canon Jane’s husband, rallied the community to invest in perennial crops like coffee and cocoa. He argued that such crops could help eradicate poverty by providing sustainable income.
“When farmers shift to coffee and cocoa, other crops like soybeans and sunflower will be produced in smaller quantities, causing their prices to rise. This will benefit those who remain in their cultivation,"he explained.
Ambrose Angura who is also Bishop of QFM also addressed the students, urging them to believe in God and their own potential. *"Use your time in school wisely. Never give up, because with faith and effort, you can achieve greatness,"he said.
The Sunday Gospel Explosion program, dedicated to spreading the word of God, continues to inspire listeners every Sunday on QFM.
