Students Welcome Godfrey Ogwang Back as Maruzi Seed SS Headteacher After Controversial Removal

APAC, UGANDA – In a dramatic turn of events, Godfrey Ogwang has officially taken over as the new Headteacher of Maruzi Seed Secondary School, succeeding Donald Oyera Aquilo who retired after five years at the helm.

Ogwang's appointment and the handover ceremony proceeded smoothly on June 2, 2026, with Oyera pledging a clean break: "I will never interfere with the leadership and management of Ogwang. This is his time."

However, reports indicate that shortly after the handover, the Apac Municipality Town Clerk ordered Ogwang off the premises, even chasing away the incoming headteacher despite the official transfer of office.

The disruption caused a halt to normal teaching activities, leaving staff and students uncertain about the school's leadership.

But on Tuesday, Ogwang returned to the school after reportedly being cleared to resume his duties. His homecoming was met with an enthusiastic welcome as students swept the school compound and gathered in large numbers to receive him. The emotional reception underscored the school community's desire for stability and continuity.

Speaking after his return, Ogwang promised to work hard to maintain the legacy of Maruzi Seed SS, one of Uganda's seed secondary schools established under the government program to expand access to secondary education in underserved areas.

"I am overwhelmed by the high level of support shown to me. The name of Maruzi Seed is already good outside there—because of the great team and the work they have done. I promise to continue making Maruzi Seed shine from where my brother Oyera left," Ogwang said.

The transition drama at Maruzi Seed SS has drawn attention from education stakeholders in Apac district, who hope the matter has now been resolved and normal operations can resume. The new headteacher has been charged with maintaining unity among staff, management, and students while producing strong academic results.
