KAMPALA – The Speaker of Parliament, Rt Hon. Annet Anita Among, has officially informed Members of Parliament of the passing of Mzee Nathan Okori Adiyo, the father of the late former Speaker, Rt Hon. Jacob Oulanyah.
In a somber communication on Saturday on X(formerly twitter)account,Speaker Among relayed the details of the family’s loss, stating that Mzee Adiyo passed away on Friday at St. Mary’s Hospital Lacor. Following consultations with the Oulanyah family, she announced that the burial has been scheduled for Tuesday, 31st March 2026.
“Following consultations with the family of my late brother, Rt Hon. Jacob Oulanyah, the family has fixed the burial of his late father, Mzee Nathan Okori Adiyo, who passed away yesterday at St. Mary's Hospital, Lacor, to take place on Tuesday, 31st March 2026, at his ancestral home in Omoro District,” Speaker Among said in her message.
The Speaker extended her condolences to the Oulanyah family, describing the loss of a patriarch so soon after the loss of the former Speaker as a profound tragedy for the family, the people of Omoro, and the entire parliamentary fraternity.
She noted that the late Mzee Adiyo was a pillar of strength for his family, particularly during the illness and subsequent passing of his son, Jacob Oulanyah, in 2022.
“All Members of Parliament, staff, and fellow countrymen and women are accordingly informed,” the Speaker added, inviting all who wish to pay their respects to join the family for the final rites.
The late Mzee Nathan Okori Adiyo’s passing marks another chapter of grief for a family that remains etched in the public memory following the death of Rt Hon. Jacob Oulanyah, who succumbed to cancer after a long battle while serving as Speaker of the 11th Parliament.
Parliament has since expressed its solidarity with the family, with several legislators already making plans to travel to Omoro District for the funeral.
