S.4 Student Beaten to Death by Fellow Students in Kwania Mob Attack

ABONGOMOLA, KWANIA – A 21-year-old Senior Four student is dead after being brutally assaulted by a mob of fellow students who accused him of theft, police have confirmed.

The incident occurred shortly after midnight on April 29, 2026, at Abongomola Seed Secondary School in Ogwok A Village, Ogwok Parish, Abongomola Sub-county, Kwania District.

According to a statement released by SP Patrick Jimmy Okema, Police Spokesperson for the North Kyoga Region, the deceased has been identified as Lukori Solomon, a boarding student residing in Imeny Village, Apolika Parish, Chawente Sub-county.

Preliminary investigations indicate that Lukori was accused by fellow students of stealing property from the boys’ dormitory. Rather than reporting the matter to school authorities, a group of students took the law into their own hands.

The mob overpowered school watchmen and pursued Lukori for approximately 400 metres towards Ogwok Trading Centre. He was apprehended and severely assaulted using sticks and bricks. Despite the severity of the attack, the assailants dragged him back to the school premises and took him to the staff room building, where he later succumbed to his injuries.

The case was first reported at 2:34 am by Adupa Stephen, 40, the school’s Deputy Headteacher. A murder case was registered at Abongomola Sub-county Police Station and later transferred to Kwania Central Police Station (CPS) for further investigation.

A team led by the District Officer in Charge of Criminal Investigations (OC CID), alongside homicide detectives and Scene of Crime Officers (SOCO), processed the scene. Photographs were taken, and exhibits including sticks and bricks believed to have been the weapons used were recovered.

Solomon’s body has been conveyed to Aduku Health Centre IV Mortuary for a postmortem examination.

Two student leaders, identified as Egaru Douglas and Okello Ivan James, have been arrested to assist with ongoing investigations. Authorities say more arrests are likely as efforts continue to establish the full circumstances surrounding the killing.

SP Okema strongly cautioned the public against mob justice, emphasizing that such actions are unlawful and undermine the rule of law.

"The public is strongly cautioned against engaging in mob actions, as it is unlawful and undermines the rule of law," the statement read.

He reminded citizens that while Section 15 of the Criminal Procedure Code allows citizens to apprehend suspected criminals, Section 16 requires them to hand over such persons to authorities without taking the law into their own hands.

Investigations are ongoing.
