Lira City, August 18, 2025 — The Rotary Club of Lira Metropolitan has kick-started an ambitious tree planting campaign with the donation of 1,000 eucalyptus seedlings to Adyel Boarding Primary School in Lira City West Division.
The initiative, led by Rotary Club President Ben Boniface Olanya, aims to plant 100,000 tree seedlings across 100 schools in the Lango sub-region as part of the club’s environmental conservation efforts this year.
“This year, our key project as a Rotary club is focused on tree planting in schools throughout Lango,” said Mr. Olanya. “We’re starting with Adyel Boarding Primary School, where we are handing over 1,000 seedlings. Our vision is to reach 100 schools and provide each with 1,000 seedlings.”
He emphasized that planting trees is not only about greening the environment but also about protecting the future of school children.
“When we conserve the environment, we are keeping our children safe, protecting infrastructure, and securing the future,” he added. “Let’s plant trees — for the future of our children, our schools, and our country.”
The deputy headteacher of Adyel Boarding Primary School, Mr. Theiphilus Oyaro, expressed his gratitude on behalf of the school.
“We are really grateful to the Rotary Club for this generous donation,” he said. “It will help us conserve our environment and also equip our pupils with valuable environmental skills.”
Mr. Oyaro assured that the seedlings will be well taken care of. The school plans to assign pupils to monitor and care for the trees during school terms, while staff will take responsibility during the holidays.
Pupils, visibly excited, participated in planting some of the seedlings in the school garden, turning the event into a memorable and educational experience.
The next school slated to benefit from the initiative is Lango College, as the Rotary Club continues its mission to promote environmental stewardship across the region.
