State House, Entebbe – March 5, 2025
President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni officiated at the swearing-in ceremony of 21 new High Court judges at State House Entebbe, urging them to serve with integrity, fairness, and efficiency in the administration of justice.
In his address, the President congratulated the newly appointed judges and called on them to use their tenure to contribute positively to the country by ensuring justice is served without unnecessary delays. He emphasized two key principles: Obuteeka (calmness) and Oburinganiza (fairness).
“Judges should bring calmness by ensuring nobody suffers from injustice or the absence of justice,”Museveni stated. “They must also provide justice for those who have been wronged and do so with utmost fairness. This is how we shall be remembered.”
The President further urged judicial officers to prioritize substance over legal technicalities, cautioning against unnecessary delays in court proceedings.
“I hear you people wasting time in court with endless objections—‘objection, my lord, bla bla bla.’ We should not waste time but listen to the truth in the cases and dispense justice swiftly,” he remarked.
Museveni also reaffirmed his commitment to strengthening the judiciary, pledging increased financial support.
“I pledge to support the judiciary even more. Indeed, budgets will increase—it’s just a question of when, not whether,” he assured.
The appointment of the 21 High Court judges is expected to bolster the judiciary’s capacity in handling cases efficiently and improving access to justice across the country.
