President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni this morning hosted the Executive Director of the World Food Programme (WFP), Mrs. Cindy McCain, and her delegation at State House Entebbe for a courtesy visit.
The meeting focused on Uganda’s continued commitment to hosting refugees and enhancing their welfare, particularly the most vulnerable groups such as children and mothers. Discussions centered on strengthening WFP’s support mechanisms to ensure food security and protection for these populations.
President Museveni emphasized the importance of creating sustainable solutions, including efforts to foster self-reliance among refugees. “We explored ways to utilize Uganda’s arable land to engage refugee communities in meaningful agricultural production. This not only empowers them economically but also reduces dependency on aid,” the President said.
Mrs. McCain commended Uganda for its open-door refugee policy and reiterated WFP’s dedication to partnering with the government to improve living conditions and opportunities for all refugees within Uganda’s borders.
The meeting marks a continued collaboration between Uganda and the WFP, aimed at addressing humanitarian needs while promoting long-term development and resilience.
