LIRA CITY, Uganda – The Territorial Police in Lira City are investigating a burglary and theft case that has led to the arrest of three suspects, including two juveniles, following a break-in at a residence in Teso Bar “C” Cell.
The incident was reported on April 10, 2026, at around 5:00 p.m. by Atino Majuma, a 48-year-old businesswoman. According to her statement, she woke up inside her home to discover that unknown persons had gained entry by forcing open her door. A 24-inch flat-screen television, a Tecno mobile phone, a backpack, and other unspecified items were stolen. She also noted that her water meter had been removed from its external fixture.
Police spokesperson for the North Kyoga Region, SP Patrick Jimmy Okema, confirmed that the complainant first alerted local authorities and the Starch Factory Police Station. Acting on a tip from an individual identified only as “Ogwang,” the victim was directed to a scrap dealer’s yard, leading investigators to the stolen property.
Three suspects are currently in custody:
· Opio Dominic, 20, a scrap dealer from Teso “A” Cell.a 16 year old juvenile from Tetugo Cell and another who is , 13 years from Tetugo Cell.
Police officers led by the Officer in Charge of Starch Factory Police Station, Sgt. Opio, visited the crime scene and recovered four metallic water meters as exhibits.
“Preliminary findings indicate that the suspects gained entry by breaking through the door, stealing items from inside the house and the compound,” SP Okema said in a statement. “It has also been established that the recovered exhibits were not all stolen from a single location, suggesting involvement in multiple theft incidents.”
The three remain in custody as investigations continue. Police say further details will be released in due course.
