LIRA DISTRICT – December 23,2025 – The Territorial Police in Lira District are investigating a tragic case of murder stemming from domestic violence, which has resulted in the death of a 46-year-old woman and the arrest of her husband.

The victim has been identified as Akwang Jenifer, a peasant farmer and resident of Olil B Village, Abwocolil Parish, in Awiodyek Sub-County.

According to a statement released by North Kyoga Region Police Spokesperson, SP Patrick Jimmy Okema, the fatal incident is alleged to have occurred on the evening of Sunday, December 21, 2025, at approximately 8:00 PM at the couple’s home. The case was formally registered at Amach Town Council Police Station in the early hours of Monday, December 22.

Preliminary police investigations indicate that the deceased returned home with her husband, Onono Robin, 45, from a local drinking place, with both reportedly under the influence of alcohol. A quarrel erupted after Jenifer accused the children of her husband’s co-wife of stealing her goats.

The confrontation intensified when Onono Robin dismissed the complaint and expressed his intention to sleep at the home of his co-wife, which Jenifer strongly opposed. The argument is alleged to have turned physically violent.

“The disagreement escalated into a physical confrontation during which the suspect allegedly held the deceased by the neck, causing her to fall down in front of their house and become extremely weak,” stated SP Okema.

The suspect then allegedly carried the unresponsive woman into the house and placed her on a bed. The situation was later discovered by the couple’s daughters, who alerted their grandmother. Upon arrival, the grandmother confirmed that Jenifer had died.

The local Vice LC I Chairperson was notified, who subsequently informed the Officer-in-Charge of Majan Police Post, leading to police intervention.

A coordinated response followed. Police officers visited and documented the crime scene with support from the Homicide Team from Lira Central Police Station (CPS) and the Scenes of Crime Officers (SOCO) team. Key witness statements were recorded.

The prime suspect, Onono Robin, was arrested and initially detained at Amach Town Council Police Station before being transferred to Lira District CPS for further management. The body of Akwang Jenifer was conveyed to the Lira Regional Referral Hospital Mortuary for a post-mortem examination to establish the exact cause of death.

SP Okema confirmed that inquiries into the matter are ongoing as the police continue their investigation.
